The Ministry of Home Affairs has posited that 54 Chinese mobile applications, including the popular game Garena Free Fire, be banned.
The earlier apps were banned by MeitY under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, which states that the government has the "Power to issue directions for interception, monitoring, or decryption of any information through any computer resource."
This is generally done when the government is "UNsatisfied that it is necessary or expedient to do so in the interest of the sovereignty or integrity of India, defence of India, security of the State, friendly relations with foreign States, or public order, or for preventing incitement to the commission of any cognizable offence relating to the foregoing, or for investigating any offence."

54 Garena Free Fire – Illuminateगृह मंत्रालय ने माना है कि लोकप्रिय गेम गरेना फ्री फायर सहित 54 चीनी मोबाइल एप्लिकेशन पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया गया है।
पहले के ऐप्स को सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी अधिनियम की धारा 69A के तहत MeitY द्वारा प्रतिबंधित कर दिया गया था, जिसमें कहा गया है कि सरकार के पास "किसी भी कंप्यूटर संसाधन के माध्यम से किसी भी जानकारी के अवरोधन, निगरानी या डिक्रिप्शन के लिए निर्देश जारी करने की शक्ति है
यह आम तौर पर तब किया जाता है जब सरकार "असंतुष्ट हो कि भारत की संप्रभुता या अखंडता, भारत की रक्षा, राज्य की सुरक्षा, विदेशी राज्यों के साथ मैत्रीपूर्ण संबंधों, या सार्वजनिक व्यवस्था के हित में ऐसा करना आवश्यक या समीचीन है, या पूर्वगामी से संबंधित किसी भी संज्ञेय अपराध के कमीशन को रोकने के लिए, या किसी अपराध की जांच के लिए।"।"
